Frequently Asked Questions

The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

To view the questions, click on the "Select Category" bar and then click on the category you are interested in.  A list of questions will appear pertaining to that category. Then click on the question you are inquiring about and the answer will appear.

How do I go back to receiving paper notifications through the postal mail?

After logging into Income Tax Online Services, click on the My Notifications Settings hyperlink. Once on this page, click the Deactivate button and future notices will be sent to you via postal mail until such time that you activate this service again.

Note: If you deactivate the service during the notice mailing period (from late December through early January) your request may not take effect until the next year. 

NOTE: Beginning in taxable year 2018, 1099's will no longer be mailed to you. You must utilize the online portal to print a copy of your 1099.
