Frequently Asked Questions

The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

To view the questions, click on the "Select Category" bar and then click on the category you are interested in. A list of questions will appear pertaining to that category. Then click on the question you are inquiring about and the answer will appear.

How do I get my User ID and/or password if I am unable to answer my security questions?

If you have forgotten your User ID and/or password and are unable to answer your security questions, you must send a legible copy of your social security card and a government-issued document (such as a driver’s license, military ID, birth certificate, passport) with your date of birth by either:

Note: The Department of Taxation is unable to provide you with your User ID or password. This process will instead allow you to reregister for Online Services. You should allow 48 hours for the Department to process your request prior to attempting to reregister. This process will not delete prior tax return information.
