Frequently Asked Questions

The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

To view the questions, click on the "Select Category" bar and then click on the category you are interested in.  A list of questions will appear pertaining to that category. Then click on the question you are inquiring about and the answer will appear.

When the Department sends e-mails, is there ever a need to respond?

The Department’s e-mails do not elicit or require responses directly to the e-mail itself and are only informational in nature. However, taxpayers should take the appropriate action requested (ex: if a failure to file a tax return e-mail is received, the taxpayer should file a tax return). If proper action is not taken, a notification letter will be sent later through the United States Postal Service (USPS).
