The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

How much am I eligible to deduct on my Ohio return for contributions made to an Ohio 529 College Savings Plan?

Currently, you may deduct up to $2,000 per beneficiary, per tax year.

Starting with tax year 2018 (tax returns due April 2019), you may deduct up to $4,000 per beneficiary, per tax year.

The deduction amount for any tax year, subject to the above limitation, may include;

  •  Contributions made during the current tax year,
  •  Contributions made, but not deducted, during previous tax years; OR
  •  A combination of current-year and previous-year contribution amounts.

NOTE:  Account statements and proof of payment(s) may be required to validate any deductions claimed.
