Why is ODT requesting information from a taxpayer's driver’s license be entered when electronically filing an Ohio income tax return?

Beginning in tax year 2016 to combat stolen-identity tax fraud, Ohio, along with other states, started requiring driver's license information for the primary taxpayer and spouse (if Married Filing Jointly). Taxpayers are asked to provide the information from their current driver's license or state issued identification card. For taxpayers who do not have a current driver's license or state ID card, they should select the option to indicate such and are still able to e-file.
