Frequently Asked Questions

The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

To view the questions, click on the "Select Category" bar and then click on the category you are interested in.  A list of questions will appear pertaining to that category. Then click on the question you are inquiring about and the answer will appear.

Why is ODT requiring an e-mail address on electronically filed income tax returns?

As ODT partners with other states, IRS and the software vendor industry to combat income tax fraud, this data element is another tool to assist toward this common goal. ODT will NOT sell or otherwise distribute the email address you provide. We may use the email address provided to us to communicate relevant information and friendly reminders (such as a failure to file or pay a bill) to taxpayers. No personal identifiable information (PII) will ever be requested in a legitimate e-mail from ODT and typically will only give directions on how the taxpayer can resolve their issue.
