Individual Tax Payments by Credit Card or Electronic Check
The Ohio Department of Taxation offers the following options for paying your Ohio and/or school district income tax online or by telephone.
Note: This page is only for making payments toward individual state and school district income taxes. To make a payment for a business tax, visit our online services for business page.
The Ohio Department of Taxation accepts online payments by credit card* or electronic check through our Income Tax Online Services option.
To access our Online Services, check here to register or login. You will need the following information to register:
- Social security number
- Last name
- Date of birth
- Issue date from an Ohio issued driver's license or State ID OR previous tax year's Ohio withholding amount
If you do not have the required components OR if you are filing an Ohio income tax return for the first time, you are not eligible to use Income Tax Online Services.
You will need to use a third party vendor to file electronically or mail in a paper form.
Once logged in, select the “View/Make Payments” link in order to make tax return, amended return, extension or estimated tax payments. For billing or assessment payments, select the Pay button under the Actions column in the Outstanding Balance section of the Dashboard on the first page displayed when you login.
*Credit card payments made through the Ohio ePayments system will be processed by Official Payments and will incur the fees listed below.
We also accept credit card payments by telephone and online through Official Payments Corporation (does not require registration).
- Go to www.officialpayments.com. Select "State Payments" and enter the Ohio jurisdiction code, 6446.

Please note that Official Payments Corporation charges a service fee of 2.5 percent (or $1, whichever is greater) on the amount of the transaction. The State of Ohio does not receive any portion of this fee. When paying by credit card, the tax amount and service fee will appear on separate lines on your credit card statement.
