Going Into the Military
Ohio resident military members have the same tax obligations
as non-military residents of Ohio. As an Ohio resident
military member, you are still required to file an Ohio
Individual Income Tax Return. You are also required to file a
School District Income Tax Return if your Home of Record is
in a taxing school district.
A benefit of being an Ohio resident military member is that
there are a couple of deductions available that may
significantly reduce the taxable income of the military
member. For example, there is a deduction for military income
earned while the military member is stationed outside of Ohio
on a permanent active duty assignment.
There is more information available about additional
deductions as well as information on the tax obligations for
Ohio resident military members and military members stationed
in Ohio available under Filing My Ohio Income Tax
Return or on ODT’s
Military Page.
