Sales and Use Tax Collections for July 2008 through December 2008, by Industrial Classification

For the July 1 through December 31, 2008 period, approximately $4.2 billion in state and permissive (local) sales & use tax was collected from 177,041 different sales vendors. The following table summarizes the sales tax data by type of industry classification for the indicated six-month period.


Out of the 30 classification groups, sales tax collections ranged from a high of $601.5 million by general merchandise stores to a low of $1.2 million by holding companies. The number of accounts per classification ranged from 30,239 miscellaneous store retailers to 31 holding companies.
