IT 2007-02 Personal Income Tax: Taxable Year 2006 Changes -
Due Date Change and Notice of Correction -- Issued February,
2007
The purpose of this information release is to notify Ohio
income taxpayers of some changes that have been made to the
Ohio 2006 IT-1040 income tax return instructions subsequent
to the mailing of the paper returns. The changes are
addressed below.
Tax Return Due Date Change
Following the recently-announced change for filing tax
returns with the Internal Revenue Service, the Ohio
Department of Taxation has announced that Ohio and school
district tax income tax returns and estimated income tax
voucher coupons which were due by April 16, 2007 are now due
by April 17, 2007.
Notice of Correction
After the Ohio IT-1040 returns were mailed, we discovered an
error on page 22 of the instructions. The correction pertains
to Line 46 – Other Deductions and “four years” was
incorrectly used instead of “five years”. Line f) now reads
as follows:
“Deduct one-fifth of the I.R.C. sections 168(k) and 179
depreciation adjustments you added back on each of your last
four FIVE years’ Ohio income tax
returns.”
Please note that we corrected our web site version of the
instructions on January 29, 2007. If you relied upon an
earlier version of the instructions and you have already
filed your tax return, you may need to file an amended
return. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have
caused.
