The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

To view the questions, click on the "Select Category" bar and then click on the category you are interested in.  A list of questions will appear pertaining to that category. Then click on the question you are inquiring about and the answer will appear.

How do I complete my Ohio individual and school district income tax returns when I am required to file both?

We recommend completing your Ohio individual income tax return first. You will receive a confirmation number for your Ohio filing once you remit the return. After the Ohio individual income tax return is transmitted, you will be given the option to file your Ohio school district income tax return.

If you file your Ohio individual income tax return and select a taxable school district, a Reminder to file your Ohio school district income tax return will appear under the Tax Returns Awaiting Action section of the Dashboard. After your Ohio school district income tax return is filed, the Reminder will be removed from the Dashboard.

Required information from your recently completed Ohio filing will populate select school district fields, thus reducing the time it takes to complete your return. You will receive a separate confirmation number for your school district return.

If you do not receive a confirmation number, your return has not been transmitted and received by the Ohio Department of Taxation.

NOTE: You cannot apply a refund or credit against a balance due from your Ohio income tax return to pay for any school district income tax, another person’s tax, or any prior year’s tax. Liabilities owed to other state agencies or taxing authorites are not applicable.
