Frequently Asked Questions Tool

The Ohio Department of Taxation has compiled a list of frequently asked questions covering many different categories.

To view the questions, click on the "Select Category" bar and then click on  the category you are interested in.  A list of questions will appear pertaining to that category. Then click on the question you are inquiring about and the answer will appear.

How do I register my corporation to do business in Ohio?

The corporation must register with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office to obtain a charter / license to conduct business in Ohio. Forms can be downloaded from their website at: www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/businesses/businessServices.aspx.

Once registered with the Ohio Secretary of State, contact the Business Tax Division at (888) 405-4039 to obtain security clearance for your corporation. Please have the following information available.

·         Name and address of the corporation

·         FEIN

·         Charter number

·         Business start date

·         Contact Person’s name, phone number and email
