XT 2005-02 - Excise and Motor Fuel Tax Division Information
Release – Motor Fuel Tax Increase - June 3, 2005
In March of 2003 the 125th General Assembly enacted Amended
Substitute House Bill 87 which increased the Ohio motor fuel
tax rate from $0.22 to $0.24 per gallon effective July 1,
2003, and from $0.24 to $0.26 per gallon effective July 1,
2004. The final two-cent increase, from $0.26 to $0.28
per gallon, will become effective on July 1, 2005.
Beginning with the July 2005 report, monthly motor
fuel tax returns should reflect a tax rate of $0.28 per
gallon.
Please report timely, using the correct tax rate, to avoid
additional interest and a possible reduction in your
