XT 2001-07 - Minimum Prices and Stamping Allowance
Increase for All Cigarette Wholesalers - December 13,
2001
Amended Substitute House Bill 405 increases the wholesale
cigarette minimum markup from 2 percent to 2.5 percent
effective December 13, 2001.
The new minimum prices apply to sales on or after December
13, 2001. Minimum prices can be obtained by visiting our Web
site at http://tax.ohio.gov/. Click on "Business." Go to
"Taxes and Fees" and click on "Cigarettes." From the Table of
Contents click on "Minimum Prices." You will now be able to
view the enclosed list of the most frequently needed minimum
prices. You can also view and download two Excel spreadsheets
(state minimum prices and county minimum prices) where you
can look up minimum prices based on other manufacturer's
costs. There were no other changes to the minimum price
statute. It is still illegal to sell cigarettes below state
minimums.
The cigarette stamping allowance was also reduced from 3.6
percent to 1.8 percent of the value of the stamps or meter
impressions. The 1.8 percent allowance will apply to all
orders received by the Treasurer of State after December 13,
2001.
