Severance Tax Electronic Filing

Beginning with the severance tax return (SV 3) for January 1, 2014 - March 31, 2014 (first quarter of 2014) which is due May 15, 2014, severance taxpayers are required to file electronically via the Ohio Business Gateway (www.business.ohio.gov).  The Ohio Business Gateway (OBG) offers electronic registration and filing tools for the Severance Tax, CAT, sales tax, employer withholding, unemployment compensation, workers' compensation, and municipal income taxes for nearly 500 cities and villages.  Electronic filing reduces paperwork and postage costs.  For state government, each electronic return saves processing costs and taxpayer dollars.

Registration required?

Yes. Taxpayers must create a username to access the system.  They will need to provide their federal employee identification number (FEIN) or social security number (SSN), business contact information, and the primary user’s contact information.  Call the Ohio Business Gateway Electronic Filing Help Desk at (866) OHIO-GOV (866-644-6468) if you need assistance.

 

Ways to file:

1. Key Ohio Severance Tax Return (SV 3) and data via Gateway application.

2. File Upload SV 6 (Oil & Gas Schedule) -Upload the Form SV 6 (Oil & Gas Schedule) from a file. OBG will validate the information and display any errors or warnings to the taxpayer.

 

Ways to pay:

1. ACH debit. You will need your bank’s routing number and your account number.

 

Additional services:

Pay billings and assessments.
Make accelerated payments.
Post-date payments (up through due date of return).
File an amended return.
